Denmark rated one of the best countries in Europe for bike trails
This article is more than 2 years old.
It has undoubtedly been a great summer of cycling for Denmark: the knock-on effect of Jonas Vingegaard winning the Tour de France and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig triumphing in the Tour of Scandinavia has seen record numbers of youngsters join cycling clubs.
For example, Holstebro Cykle Club now has 35 youth members, compared to fewer than ten in 2019, reports DR.
And now there is the welcome news that Denmark has been ranked fourth in a ranking of the best European countries for cycling trails.
The ranking, published by LiveRugbyTickets.co.uk, counts the number of trails per 1,000 sqkm in each country.
Furesø Rundt a recommended trail
Denmark ranks behind Switzerland, the UK and Germany with 21 cycle trails per 1,000 sqkm. In total, it has 906.
“In fourth place we have Denmark with 21 biking trails for every 1,000 sqkm,” praises the ranking.
“If you enjoy being around bodies of water, the Furesø Rundt is a trail that makes you explore all around Lake Furesø. The landscapes are very varied, from forests to flower-bursting fields, and of course, the lake itself: this is a great place not only for biking but also for camping.”
Completing the top ten were the Netherlands, Italy, France, Spain, Austria and Hungary.
