Unprecedented triple Oscar nomination for Danish film
This article is more than 3 years old.
‘Flugt’ has just been shortlisted for Best International Feature Film, Best Documentary Feature and Best Animated Feature
Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s animated documentary ‘Flugt’ (‘Flee’) has just been nominated for three Oscars – an unprecedented achievement.
Just moments ago, its inclusion on the five-film shortlists for Best International Feature Film, Best Documentary Feature and Best Animated Feature was confirmed by the Academy.
In the history of the Oscars, the same film has never been shortlisted for all three categories. Romanian film ‘Collective’ was nominated for both Best International Feature Film and Best Documentary Feature last year.
It is only since 2020 that both animated and documentary films have been permitted in the Best International Feature Film category.
It could even surpass ‘Parasite’
The Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner failed to win any awards at the Golden Globes and could easily miss out in all three categories.
According to the bookmakers it is a 5/1 third favourite to win Best Animated Feature and a 7/4 second favourite to win Best Documentary Feature.
According to Indiewire, it is among the frontrunners to make the final five shortlist for Best International Feature Film, but faces stiff competition from Japanese entry ‘Drive My Car’, which has also been nominated for Best Picture and Best Director.
One more Danish nom
‘Flugt’ isn’t the only Danish Oscar nominee in contention.
Yet another film produced by M&M Productions, ‘On My Mind’ by Martin Strange-Hansen, has been shortlisted for Best Live Action Short.
The Oscar winners will be confirmed on March 27.
