Migration, terrorism, Brexit and the Arctic among the focal points
The government has today presented its new foreign and security policy strategy for the next two years (2017-2018).
The strategy was unveiled by the foreign minister, Anders Samuelsen, and development minister, Ulla Tørnæs, and will encompass all aspects of Denmark’s foreign policy work.
“The world looks a lot different than it did three-four years ago – and actually just one year ago,” said Samuelsen.
“In many areas, life has improved for many, but there are also a lot of things that are moving in the wrong direction: freedom and free trade is under pressure, migration floods are threatening Europe’s stability, authoritarian powers are gaining momentum and international co-operation is increasingly questioned.”

Taking the reins
Samuelsen maintained that Denmark should take more responsibility in the wake of Brexit, the new course set in the US and a more aggressive Russian foreign policy.
Increasing the Danish defence budget, tackling cybercrime and obtaining a Brexit result that it good for Denmark were among the goals highlighted by the foreign minister.
