Out and About: Clashing at Charlie’s, the cathedral of conkers

For the second year running, the Copenhagen Conker Championship was staged outside Charlie’s Pub in the city centre last weekend.
The testosterone on display at such events can be frightening at times, although it hasn’t put a few lady players off from joining in.

“The gentleman’s game of conkers has changed very much over the years,” explained event organiser Jon Nunn (above), a renowned conker whisperer.
“Ever since 1873 when the committee voted to allow members of the opposite sex to participate rather than merely attend, the game has become much more competitive – as was seen by the sheer sportsmanship and, indeed, professionalism in today’s games.”
In the end, Adam ‘Big Balls’ Wilkinson (above left) defended his title and reclaimed his trophy.
