Superliga season kicking off
This article is more than 8 years old.
The ball starts rolling on this year’s Superliga action when Viborg hosts FC Nordsjælland on Friday, July 15.
FC Copenhagen looks to defend its title in a classic derby that has been missing for a number of years but which will be renewed on July 16 thanks to the promotion of Lyngby to the top flight for the first time since 2012.
Fans will also appreciate the fact that Lyngby is known to have the best stadium sausages in Denmark. Silkeborg and Horsens are the other two promoted teams hoping to stay up.
It will be an exciting season of football for the Superliga as it embraces a new structure change akin to the one employed in Belgium and Scotland.
The league will be made up of 14 teams and employ a two-phase model that will see the top six split away from the bottom eight after game 26. The first New Firm battle of the season, pitting FC Copenhagen against arch rivals Brøndby, will take place in week seven.
