Malmø’s urban planning committee has announced plans to increase housing development targets from 50,000 to 80,000 units by 2040.
The upgrade will create room for about 160,000 new residents.
Last week, the technical department at Malmø Municipality approved the construction of an additional 750 housing units in the residential area of Hyllie, where about 631 apartments are currently being built.
The area is located right across the Øresund Bridge, just one train stop from Copenhagen Airport, and once fully developed, it will offer a total of 9,000 housing units.
