Possibility of getting tickets looks slim to impossible
Football fans south of the Øresund kept an eye on today’s Champions League group stage draw for two reasons.
Firstly, who would neighbours Malmö FF draw? And secondly, are any of them ‘so’ big it would eliminate the possibility of getting any tickets?
Well, the answer is a resounding yes, as in Real Madrid, the Swedes will face a genuine global superpower.
While the French champs, Paris Saint-Germain, also have a lot of pulling power – not least the return of Sweden’s favourite son, Zlatan Ibrahimović.
Making up the numbers are Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk.
Easy to buy them last year
Ahead of the draw, Nicolas Fernström, a Malmö FF fan who lives in Copenhagen, was hopeful that the world of football wouldn’t be granted a good draw for neutrals.
Last year he found it “relatively easy” to pick up tickets, even though he had to wait for season ticket holders and club members to have first option.
“We were in the same group as Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Olympiakos, but it was still relatively easy to get tickets – provided you bought all three together as a package,” he told the Copenhagen Post.
“But make sure you buy as early as possible, as the games were all sold out in the end.”
With Real Madrid and PSG coming over, and the stadium only holding a capacity of 20,500 for CL games, the possibility of tickets now looks extremely slim.
