It was a red carpet affair ode to rock ‘n’ roll
The iconic Hard Rock Cafe (HRC) in Copenhagen today opened its new restaurant at Rådhuspladsen, the city hall square, to much fanfare and rock-inspired shenanigans.
Copenhagen’s deputy mayor for culture and leisure issues, Carl Christian Ebbesen, and the lead singer of Danish band Turboweekend, Silas Bjerregaard, were among the five dignitaries to take part in the red carpet affair in an ode to rock ‘n’ roll.
The pair teamed up with HRC’s Danish general manager and European deputy head Denmark, Dave McBeth and David Pellow, as well as the legendary HRC institution Rita Gilligan, who worked as a waitress on the opening day of the very first HRC in London in 1971.

The ‘band’ of five, each armed with a guitar, gave their salute to rock ‘n’ roll and Hard Rock by smashing their instruments on bricks outside the cafe entrance.
The HRC, which just celebrated its 20-year anniversary in Copenhagen, was until very recently located just near the entrance to Tivoli across the road from Central Station.
The HRC, founded in 1971 in London by Peter Morton, began covering its walls with rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia in 1979.
Now headquartered in Orlando, Florida and owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, there are 191 HRC locations in 59 nations across the world, including 145 cafes, 21 hotels and 10 casinos.
