Scottish dancers to take over Tårnby
Dust off your best dancing shoes this long weekend. From May 22-25, Copenhagen will play host to an international training course and workshop in Scottish country dance.
Teachers and musicians from Scotland and the USA will take over a Tårnby bowling alley along with 170 dancers from all over the world.
Unlike square dancing, there is no ‘caller’ broadcasting the dance formations.
20,000 members
The music is performed on traditional instruments like piano, accordion and violin. The course is being organised by the International Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) in co-operation with the largest domestic dance group, Dancetide.
The international branch organises a major workshop every two years with other smaller events in between.
Previous global gatherings have been held in Estonia, Czech Republic, Scotland and Ireland. Today the RSCDS numbers some 20,000 members worldwide.
