Today, Google honours Inge Lehmann, the Danish scientist credited with discovering the Earth’s core

And soon to be available in outer-space (photo: NASA)
Take a look at Google today and you will notice the search engine’s logo fashioned in the shape of a globe.
This is because today, Google is honouring the life of Danish seismologist Inge Lehmann – and what would have been her 127th birthday.
Lehmann, who died in 1993 aged 104, is widely credited as the person responsible for discovering the Earth’s inner core – a feat that certainly deserves to be celebrated. She studied earthquakes to find that the Earth had both an inner and outer core, a revelation which redefined how we study the planet.
Google’s animated ‘doodle’ shows the Earth split in two with the inner core shining in the centre.
