Defendant pleads guilty to stealing 1.6 million kroner’s worth of homeware
The list of charges today at Horsens court sounded like the inventory of a high-end furniture retailer when a 30-year-old man was found guilty of committing a series of burglaries in which 1.6 million kroner’s worth of designer furniture was stolen.
The convicted man pleaded guilty to 22 separate counts of burglary or attempted burglary and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
Hid in plain sight
In arriving at the sentence, the court emphasised the organised nature of the crimes – describing them as almost following a “business model” – the high value of the items stolen, and the fact that the man had several previous convictions for theft.
The man is said to have acted with accomplices, three of whom are in custody for the same charges. They would use estate agents’ websites to find homes with desirable furnishings and would, in many cases, commit the burglaries in broad daylight disguised as removal men.
The stolen items ended up in various auction houses. Police in southeast Jutland have warned buyers that stolen property is returned to its rightful owner, regardless of whether it has been resold in good faith.
The other three men accused in the case are awaiting trial.
