Massive waterpark could make a splash in Denmark

The western coast of Jutland could be the setting for the largest waterpark in northern Europe if all goes well with the project's application paperwork, according to DR Nyheder.
The project – which will be worth about a billion kroner and has been given the name Søndervig Feriepark – will offer an outdoor waterpark and 500 summerhouses. It will be located in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality and employ about 1,000 people by 2020.
But before the park can be built, it needs to be approved by the nature authorities Naturstyrelsen as one of ten experimental projects that will be given dispensation to build within the protected coastal zone area.

Mayor optimistic
The government and parliament approved the experimental initiative last year in an effort to help the rural communities that depend on tourism. There are already about 3,000 people employed in the tourism industry in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality.

”I think the documentation in our application is good, so I expect it will be approved,” Iver Enevoldsen, the mayor of the municipality, told DR Nyheder. According to Enevoldsen, Ringkøbing-Skjern is the only municipality in that part of the country to apply for that particular project.
Naturstyrelsen said it had received applications for ten projects from nine different municipalities and a final decision on the project would be made sometime this spring.
