Norwegian authorities warn of major terrorist attack threats within the next few days

Norwegian society on high alert following terror threat
The head of the Norwegian Security Service, the Norwegian Police Commissioner and the Minister of Justice were among the participants at a press conference today in Oslo, where the public is informed about a possible imminent terrorist attack in Norway.
Both the Norwegian newspaper VG and the news agency NTB reported that information has been uncovered that an extremist Syrian group may be planning to carry out a major terrorist act.
The Norwegian government held a press conference to announce “a potential threat to national security in Norway."
Head of Norway’s security service Benedicte Bjørn Grunde, police chief Vidar Refvik and justice minister Anders Anundsen said that they have information that a terrorist attack will be carried out in Norway within days.
"We have been informed that it will be carried out by people who participated in the fighting in Syria,” said Grunde. “We have no information about who, where, or how a planned attack will be implemented.”
Grunde said that there could be “people moving across Norway’s national borders right now” and that the time frame for the attack was July, but “we are uncertain whether it will happen now or in a week. We are working to get more information”.

Deadly anniversary
Refvik said that preparedness efforts have been strengthened at airports, railway stations and on highways throughout the country.
"There will be a higher alert at airports, both in terms of uniformed and civilian police," Refvik told the Norwegian newspaper VG.
The news of the terrorist threat comes two days after the anniversary of Anders Brevik's attacks in Oslo and on Utøya that killed 77 Norwegians in 2011.
