The deal still requires the approval of Mecon’s stockholders and the Dutch competition authorities
One of Denmark’s largest media groups, Berlingske Media, has been sold to the Belgium media group De Persgroep for 1.832 billion kroner.
Berlingske Media – which owns a large number of Danish media such as BT tabloid, Berlingske newspaper and Weekendavisen – had been owned by the British company Mecom Group since 2006.
“I am sure that Berlingske Media, with De Persgroep as the new owner, will have the opportunity to strengthen its position in the Danish market and to develop the company as a part of a very successful European media group,” Lisbeth Knudsen, the head of Berlingske Media, said in a press release.

The deal still requires the approval of Mecon’s stockholders and the Dutch competition authorities – as De Persgroep has a considerable amount of media activity in the Netherlands – but the deal is expected to be finalised by the end of the year.
De Persgroep’s publications include Belgium’s best-selling newspaper Het laatste Nieuws, De Morgen and Algemeen Dagblad in the Netherlands.
Between 1991 and 2013, De Persgroep has managed to increase its turnover from 596 million to 6.7 billion kroner and its EBITDA from 37 million to 974 million kroner.
