Major retail chain orders designer’s mobile phone covers
Line Dyrholm is one of five designers at Højkant Designbutik, a small design shop on Saint Paul Kirkeplads in Aarhus. The designers’ works include custom jewellery, hand-made accessories and art works, but come autumn, Dyrholm’s creations will be for sale in one of the largest retail establishments in the US.
“It all started when I went to a festival in Frankfurt,” Dyrholm said. “I had the smallest booth at the fair, only nine square metres.”
But that booth – filled with Dyrholm’s creations including necklaces, children’s towels and laptop covers – was large enough to attract the attention of buyers from The Container Store, a large retail chain in the United States.
“I was in my booth in Frankfurt when about ten people squeezed in,” said Dyrholm. “There were secretaries writing things down and this woman walked up and said she liked my work and wanted to make an order.”
Dyrholm did not disclose any figures regarding the order but she expects to see her mobile phone covers for sale in The Container Store starting in September under her brand name Linedyr.
The Container Store has shops in 19 states throughout the US, along with locations in Washington, DC. The company’s headquarters is in Dallas, Texas and the Dallas Morning News reported that the company has an annual revenue of roughly $700 million, approximately 3.9 billion kroner.
“I’ve never visited the US,” the 36-year-old Dyrholm admitted. But now she’s planning to visit a Container Store location, probably in New York, when her work goes on display.
