AmCham Denmark presents radar maker with annual prize acknowledging transatlantic companies
The American Chamber of Commerce in Denmark (AmCham Denmark) presented Jutland-based defence and aerospace company Terma with its 2013 ‘Transatlantic Company of the Year’ last Friday at a reception.
Terma is best known for producing radar systems for coastal and traffic surveillance. The company received the prize for reaching “impressive results through strategic partnerships and an active presence”, AmCham Denmark stated.
Steen Thomsen, a professor at Copenhagen Business School and the head of the jury selecting the winner, stressed the importance of Terma’s establishment of partnerships across the Atlantic and the investments they have made.
“Terma has used substantial investments in advanced technology to create a unique niche in an extremely difficult market,” Thomsen said.
Stephen Brugger, the executive director of AmCham Denmark, said the annual award emphasised the importance transatlantic co-operation has for Denmark.
“When talking about growth markets, people often forget that trade and investments between the US and Europe are still the primary motor in the global economy,” Brugger said.
Jørn Henrik Levy Rasmussen, Terma’s president, called the award a recognition of his company’s “long term effort to establish and maintain partnerships across the Atlantic. As a high-technology Danish niche company we have a set partnership strategy in which we aim for win-win situations with some of the industry’s most important companies.”
AmCham also took the opportunity to announce that Steve Shillington would be replacing Kim Østrup as the organisation’s chairman. Shillington, an Australian, is the managing director of McDonald’s Denmark.
