Golfer remains in top-10, despite three bogeys and a double bogey in third round
Golfer Thorbjørn Olesen may look back on the day he played with his idol with mixed emotions. The 22-year-old started Saturday’s third round of the British Open in fourth place, earning himself a round with Tiger Woods. But when all was said and done, the Dane had slipped to seventh overall, seven strokes off the leader, Adam Scott, of Australia.
“I was really nervous on the first few holes, and that was solely because I was playing with Tiger,” Olesen said afterwards. “He’s been my idol since I was little, and I had really been looking forward to it.”
“I was pretty nervous and mishit a few shots. Fortunately, I was able to play out of it.”
Despite bogeying the fourth and sixth holes, and double bogeying the 14th, Olesen’s 71 was just a stroke worse than Woods on the day. He could have equalled the American, had he not bogeyed the 18th hole after being assessed a penalty stroke when one of his balls hit the clubhouse wall.
Denmark’s other Open golfer, Thomas Bjørn, also slid down the leader boards, and currently in an eight-way tie for 25th.
