Young Austrian outsider has a better Wimbledon record than Dane
Caroline Wozniacki has been handed a tough first round draw at Wimbledon, the season’s third grand slam tournament, which starts on Monday.
She faces Austria’s Tamira Paszek, who on Saturday won the AGEON International grass-court championships in Eastbourne, a tournament that Wozniacki was knocked out of in her opening match.
Furthermore, Paszek, the world number 52, made the quarter-finals of last year's Wimbledon, knocking out French Open champion Francesca Schiavone in the process.
Wozniacki, in contrast, has never been beyond the last 16 at Wimbledon, although she did win the girls’ singles back in 2006.
Should she prevail against Paszek on Tuesday, she is likely to meet Russian double slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in the last 32, the 2007 runner-up Marion Bartoli in the last 16 and Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in the quarter-finals.
Wozniacki is 12th favourite to win the tournament and available at 50/1 with Ladbroke’s. She is 2/5 to beat Paszek with both Ladbroke's and Bet 365.
