Charlottenlund runner wins warm Copenhagen Marathon

Tough race on warm day through the streets of the city
Dane Martin Parkhøi won the men’s division of Sunday’s Copenhagen marathon. Parkhøi passed Irish runner Barry Minock with just over two kilometres to go before the finish line. Minock had led for much of the race, but wilted in the spring heat. The 39-year-old Parkhøi finished with a time of 2:24:49.
The women’s division of the race was won by Irish runner Barbra Sanchez with a time of 2:41:18, Dane Lene Hjelmsø finished in second place. She completed the course ran in 2:45:17.
The Copenhagen Post’s own Aviaja Bebe Nielsen completed the marathon with a time of 4:36:33
A record 10,500 runners started this year's race and 9,500 of those hardy souls reached the finish. This year saw a record number of women entering the marathon. Nearly 22 percent of this year's runners were women.
