FC Copenhagen buckling under the pressure as they drop points for the second straight game
The race to win the Superliga title got even tighter this weekend after FCK needed a late penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw at home against OB, while FC Nordsjælland kept the pressure on by beating relegation-destined Lyngby.
FCN had beaten Lyngby 2-0 on Saturday and FCK were clear favourites to beat a struggling OB team that had only managed four points in the last twelve games.
But Morten Skoubo shocked the Lions with a decisive strike on the hour and OB were also denied a penalty later on, before Superliga top scorer Dame N’Doye equalised from the spot with ten minutes to go.
FCK manager Carsten Jensen admitted after the match that perhaps the pressure was getting to some of his players.
“I don’t know if it’s the situation that did it, but the end is approaching and we didn’t get what we wanted to from the game and FC Nordsjælland is closing in,” Jensen told 3+ TV. “I don’t know if those thoughts are weighing on the minds of the players, but the level of play was not good enough for the first hour of the game today.”
With three rounds to go, FCK will have to overcome some tricky fixtures, SønderjyskE and FC Midtjylland (both away) and Silkeborg (at home), while FCN take on OB and Horsens (both home) and Brøndby (away).
But the league title looks likely to come down to the final round, and while FCK still has a one point cushion and a better goal difference, it’s meagre pickings compared to the six point lead they held just a week ago.
